Highlights from 2010 event.
FROM TENNIS TO CHARITY -
The FTIC 2010 event and tournament was made successful by the kindness of the many volunteers, corporate sponsors, tennis players, and special guests from the movie and TV industry in Los Angeles, who all gave for the benefit of Fiji’s children.
With the diversity of players representing the United States, Slovakia, Philippines, China, New Zealand and India, the stage was set for a thrilling tournament and an amazing adventure in this new Pacific Island tournament, complete with River Safari on the Sigatoka, a trip to a Fiji village to taste the true meaning of the “Bula” culture, an enchanting and teary eyed Durbar at Fiji’s schools, complete with the most amazing welcome and farewell songs, and a warm dinner reception finale at the Sheraton Hotels & Resorts on Denarau Island.
For the children of the Island, it was pure unadulterated ‘magic’, as they saw face to face in their schools and in their villages their favorite TV and movie stars, who danced and ate the same local food, while spending enough time to pour into their lives, by encouraging them and emphasizing the need for an education and the many doors it opens down the road.
The stage is now set for the second edition, form February 21st to February 25th, 2011 on Denarau Island; Fiji.
The images from the inaugural Fiji Tennis Invitation Classic event and tournament in February 2010 shows one thing clearly. A simple and elegant international gathering of players, officials, actors, guests, and organizers, with a single goal in mind; to shine some light and bring a little more hope to Fiji’s amazingly resilient and beautiful children.
